Good morning, Sports fans! And Happy New Year! Davey Mac back from vacay for your first Sports Report of 2024! And it’s gonna be a good one as all kinds of sports action is taking place! So let’s get started!
We’re beginning with the College Football Playoffs as we essentially had the Final Four of Football yesterday. In the Rose Bowl matchup between Michigan and Alabama…it was Michigan who beat Alabama in Overtime…27 to 20. Quarterback J.J. McCarthy was solid for the Wolverines…throwing for 221 yards, 3 touchdowns, and no interceptions. McCarthy led Michigan down the field late in the game to tie it up and force O.T.

The Wolverines had to come back in the final two minutes to tie the game and send it to O.T. Michigan running back Blake Corum carried the ball for the game-winning T.D. In doing so, Corum also set the Michigan University record for most career touchdowns for a running back (56). What a career Corum has had.

As controversial Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh (who’s been suspended for six games this season) and the Wolverines will get to the Championship Game where they’ll play Washington. The fact that Michigan made it to the National Championship game in a season where their coach was suspended for it is insane. While some people feel Harbaugh shouldn’t have been allowed to coach this year…others give credit to the players for being so resilient. Either way, it should be a great game between the Wolverines and Washington! I’m Davey Mac…now on to the rest of the Scoreboard!

Washington Defeats Texas In Sugar Bowl
Meanwhile, Washington took down Texas in the Sugar Bowl…37 to 31. Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. threw for 430 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions….in fact, two different Washington receivers had over 100 yards…as Washington now takes on Michigan on Monday in the National Championship Game. Should be fun!

Knicks Beat T-Wolves
Over to basketball…where the new-look Knicks beat the Timberwolves yesterday…112 to 106. Julius Randle led the way for the Knicks with 39 points and 9 rebounds…and new Knicks OG Anunoby had 17 points and 2 steals in the win. In case you missed it, over the weekend, the Knicks traded R.J. Barrett and Immanuel Quickley to the Toronto Raptors for Anunoby and Precious Aciuwa.
