Good morning, my fellow Sports fans and appreciators of Athletics! It’s Davey Mac here back with an action-packed Sports Report for ya! It’s all about the football, the baseball, and basketball! But first…
…We start with football…where the New York Jets played their season opener against the Buffalo Bills last night and obviously it was a bittersweet debut.
The Jets won in Overtime…22 to 16…however the big story is that newly-acquired superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers was injured after just four snaps and was forced out of the game. The initial X-ray was negative…but he still needs to get an MRI today for fear of a torn Achilles (which would be a season-ender).
The news of Rodgers’ potentially devastating injury has left Jets fans (and the football world, to be honest) in utter shock. Gang Green is still looking for just their second Super Bowl in franchise history…and their first championship in over 50 years since Joe Namath led the team to victory in Super Bowl III. It’s just insane.
Jets head coach Robert Saleh was the one who reported to the media that it may be an Achilles tear. He spoke to reporters after the game and, despite the thrilling Jets win in O.T., Saleh looked pretty glum. He offered this to the Jets fans: “The MRI is probably going to confirm what we think is going to happen, so prayers tonight. But it’s not good.”
So what do you think, Jets fans? If Rodgers goes down with an Achilles injury…are the Jets done for the year? And if Rodgers can come back…will the offensive line step up their game and protect the Jets’ $100 million investment?
The bottom line is that we saw the O-line struggle in training camp if you watched HBO’s Hard Knocks. In that excellent docuseries, the O-line played very poorly at times and there was concern about their play. Now we know why. We’ll see what this means for Gang Green…but, boy…this one is hard to take for Jets fans.
