The Morning Rat Race

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE - SEPTEMBER 11: Running back Saquon Barkley #26 of the New York Giants celebrates after his team's 21-20 victory against the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium on September 11, 2022 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Good morning, Sports fans!  Davey Mac here after a nice, refreshing Monday off!  I had the flu…um…yeah!  That’s the ticket!  It was the “flu”…and it had nothing to do with the insane and awesome St. Patrick’s Parade in Asbury Park, New Jersey!  OK…fine…I’ll admit it…it was the Irish flu!  Don’t judge me!  Anyway, I’m back with a fresh Sports Report for ya so let’s get started!

And we have to begin with breaking news out of the NFL as ESPN is reporting that Saquon Barkley appears to be leaving the Giants and joining the Eagles.  Saquon has reportedly received three years and $37.5 million with $26 million fully guaranteed at signing.

Man…this is a tough loss for the Giants.  Speaking as a lifelong and massive fan of the G-Men, Saquon Barkley has been the Giants’ best player these past five years.  Sure, he’s been injured from time to time.  But the guy is dynamic…and a clutch player on top of that.

EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY – NOVEMBER 13: Saquon Barkley #26 of the New York Giants scores a touchdown during the third quarter of the game against the Houston Texans at MetLife Stadium on November 13, 2022 in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Think of all the times that the Giants absolutely needed to pick up a critical yard on 4th and 1…Saquon would get you that first down almost every time.  And it was the same with 4th and goal, two-point conversions, and other clutch moments filled with tons of pressure.  Saquon was dependably The Guy in those situations.

Regardless, I’m sure Giants general manager Joe Schoen knows that he’s doing…but it’s still tough to lose such a great player.  I’m Davey Mac…now on to the rest of the Sports Report!
