The Morning Rat Race

Good morning, Sports fans and friends!  It’s your official authority of athletics Davey Mac here…and we’ve got a huge Sports Report for ya today!  We’re talking Football!  Baseball!  Basketball!  And Hockey!  But first…

…Today would have been legendary musician John Lennon’s 83rd birthday.  John was born in Liverpool, England on October 9th, 1940.  Of course, John would go on to be the leader of The Beatles and help change the music industry forever.

But some might not know that John was a big fan of sports.  Supposedly he liked rugby, soccer, boxing, and more.  But we’ve decided to look at John’s appearance on Monday Night Football in 1974.  John was interviewed by the iconic Howard Cosell and gushed over American football.  Check this clip out.

Sadly, it would also be Cosell himself who would break the news of Lennon’s murder in 1980…also on Monday Night Football.  In one of the darkest announcements in rock history, Cosell did a solid job letting the public know of this true rock tragedy.

But today we celebrate John Lennon joyously on his birthday as one of the greatest rock pioneers of all time.  An amazing writer, singer, and leader…he was truly rock royalty.  Happy Birthday, John!  You are missed!  Now on to the Sports Report!
