Good morning, Sports fans! Davey Mac here with a fast-paced Sports Report to start your week! Basketball, baseball, football, and hockey! But first!
Rounds 1 and 2 in the men’s NCAA Basketball Tournament have concluded and so we have our Sweet 16. And UCONN (a number one seed), led by Jersey City’s Danny Hurley as head coach, has advanced to the Sweet 16 after their 75 to 58 win over Northwestern yesterday. Hurley led the Huskies to the National Championship last year where UCONN won it all and cut down the nets.

Fellow number-one seeds North Carolina, Purdue, and Houston have all advanced to the Sweet 16 as well (in addition to UCONN). And the Big East’s Creighton and Marquette will head to the Sweet 16 as well. Congrats to all the teams. But a special shoutout to Danny Hurley…it’s pretty insane to witness all of the success he and his family have had in the sport of basketball. His father is Bob Hurley Sr., who is regarded by some as the greatest high school basketball coach of all time when coaching St. Anthony’s to multiple state championships.

And then you have Danny’s brother, Bobby Hurley, who was a huge star at Duke where he won back-to-back championships as a player. Bobby has also become a head coach as he is currently leading the Arizona State b-ball program.

Sixers Beat Clippers
In the NBA, the 76’ers beat the Clippers yesterday, 121 to 107. Philly’s Tyrese Maxey had 24 points and 6 assists in the win…as the Sixers improve to 39 and 32.

The Knicks and Nets were inactive. Tonight the Knicks take on the Pistons in Madison Square Garden. The Nets go against the Raptors in Toronto. Brooklyn is 26 and 45.
The Knicks come into the game at 42 and 28 (4th in the East).

Devils Take Down Islanders
Hockey. The Devils shut out the Islanders yesterday…4 to nothing. Devils goalie Kaapo Kahkonen had 36 saves in the victory. Jack Hughes had a goal and an assist for Jersey.

The Flyers fell to the Panthers…4 to 1.
The Rangers were off. They play the Flyers on Tuesday.

Ohtani Scandal Continues
Baseball. L.A. Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani says he will address the media today regarding his issue with his interpreter Ippei Mizuhara…who was fired by the Dodgers last week due to the $4.5 million in wire transfers sent from Ohtani’s bank account to a Southern California bookmaking operation. Ohtani and his interpreter are being investigated by federal and MLB authorities.

QB Controversy Brewing In Pittsburgh
Football. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin says while Russell Wilson will be the starting quarterback going into training camp, Justin Fields will have a chance to compete for and win the job. Both QB’s were big-name acquisitions this offseason.
