Bill Belichick met with the press yesterday after the bombshell was dropped that he would be resigning from the Patriots. Belichick said he will “always be a Patriot” and thanked owner Robert Kraft, the players, coaches, and fans. Belichick also said thanks to the media and told them that he’ll see them in the future…implying he’s not done coaching yet.

FOXBOROUGH, MASSACHUSETTS – JANUARY 11: Head coach Bill Belichick (L) of the New England Patriots shakes hands with owner Robert Kraft (R) during a press conference at Gillette Stadium on January 11, 2024 in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Belichick announced he is stepping down as head coach after 24 seasons with the team.
One thing of note: Belichick has 333 career victories (including playoffs)…which is second all-time behind Don Shula (who has 347 wins). So Belichick could break Shula’s record with 15 wins. When you factor in that Belichick has won more division titles (17), conference championships (9), and Super Bowls (6), to then have the most wins ever would instantly end all discussions about who the greatest coach is of all time…it’s Bill Belichick. I think he’s coaching for that reason.

NEW ORLEANS, LA – FEBRUARY 01: Former Miami Dolphins head coach Don Shula speaks as Head Coach Steve Specht, of St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati, is awarded the Don Shula High School Coach of the Year Award during a press conference for Super Bowl XLVII at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center on February 1, 2013 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Regardless…it’ll be interesting to watch who goes after Bill. After all of the coaching firings these past few days…there are currently seven head coaching vacancies in the NFL. And that number could grow based on how some of the teams perform in the playoffs. Should teams like the Bills or Cowboys underperform…there’s a chance Belichick could snag one of those jobs! Quite frankly, as a Giants fan, I myself would kick Brian Daboll to the curb for a chance to get Belichick. But that’s just me. I’m Davey Mac…now on to the rest of the Report!
