Good morning, Sports fans!   Davey Mac here back with a major league Sports Report for ya to get your week started!   We’ve got all the scores and news you need to know in the World of Sports so that you can go into any bar and win any sports debate!   But before we get to the Scoreboard…today is the 40th Anniversary of the infamous “Pine Tar Incident” from Major League Baseball.

The date was July 24th, 1983…and the New York Yankees and Kansas City Royals were playing each other in Yankee Stadium.  The Royals’ All-Star third baseman (and future Hall-Of-Famer) George Brett stepped to the plate and slammed a huge home run for Kansas City.

But, the Yankees’ brilliant manager Billy Martin had a trick up his sleeve.   He told the umpire that Brett was using too much pine tar on his bat…and referenced a little-known rule that if there is more pine tar on the bat than the width of home plate…the batter would be called out and the hit would not count.   Billy was nuts at times…but he was also a baseball genius.

The umpire then ruled Brett out and the Royal went absolutely bonkers.   Check out the clips below from this legendary moment in baseball!
