Good morning, Sports fans!   We’ve got a huge Sports Report for ya (scroll down) with the latest in hoops, hockey, baseball, and football!   But first!

Did you know that it has been 100 years since the opening of Yankee Stadium?   The original Stadium opened on April 18th, 1923.   Babe Ruth christened the Stadium with the first home run in its history as the Yanks beat the Red Sox, 4 to 1.   The New York newspapers said the next day that a crowd of 74,200 were in attendance…making it the largest attended Major League Baseball game of all time.

Since that time…the Stadium underwent major renovations in the ’70’s before the Yankees opened a new Yankee Stadium next door in 2009.   Speaking for myself, my family had Yanks season tickets from 1983 to 2008 and I probably went to over 250 games in the old park.   I do love the new place.   But the original Stadium was pretty special, too.

So…we’ve decided to make a list…Top 5 Home Runs In Yankee Stadium History!   We’re talking the original field so anything after 2008 isn’t eligible!   And while we would like to put the Babe’s homer on the list (it is “The House That Ruth Built” after all), we couldn’t find any footage…so we’re going with home runs that have clips!   Sorry, Babe!   Enjoy!

It has often been referred to as The Cathedral of Baseball and was demolished in 2010. (Photo by Al Bello/Allsport/Getty Images)
