The Morning Rat Race

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - OCTOBER 26: New York Knicks legend Walt Frazier is honored for receiving the Curt Gowdy Media Award during the game between the New York Knicks and the Charlotte Hornets at Madison Square Garden on October 26, 2022 in New York City.

Greetings and a good day to ya, Sports fans!  Davey Mac here with a fresh Sports Report for ya on a Wednesday!  We’ve got a little baseball hot stove, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid on retirement, and hockey and basketball scores.  But first…

…Really cool last night for long-time Knicks fans as two of the best basketball announcers ever, Mike Breen and Walt “Clyde” Frazier, celebrated their 25th anniversary as arguably the best broadcasting team in basketball.  Clyde has been there even longer (originally partnering up with Marv Albert).  Since 1999, Breen and Clyde have been the Knicks’ number one commentator team…and they are masterful at their job.

Breen is simply one of the best play-by-play announcers in all of sports, not just the NBA.  Breen, who went to Fordham University in the Bronx, New York…is tremendous with his play-calling and ability to make the big moments even bigger (if not downright epic).  And for the past 20 years, in addition to the Knicks, Breen has been the voice of the NBA…calling the NBA Finals each year.  Breen was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame recently into the broadcaster’s wing.

NEW YORK, NY – SEPTEMBER 11: Sports commentator Mike Breen participates in Annual Charity Day hosted by Cantor Fitzgerald, BGC and GFI at Cantor Fitzgerald on September 11, 2017 in New York City.

Meanwhile, Walt Frazier is a two-time Hall-Of-Famer and New York legend.  First, Clyde helped lead the Knicks to two NBA Championships in 1969 and 1973 as the star point guard and magnificent play-maker of the squad.  Clyde brought amazing defense, fantastic playing, and excellent scoring…and also his iconic sense of style.  Since the ’60’s, no in New York City has dressed better than Clyde.

"Kareem: Minority Of One" New York Premiere

NEW YORK, NY – OCTOBER 26: NBA Star Walt Frazier attends the “Kareem: Minority Of One” New York Premiere at Time Warner Center on October 26, 2015 in New York City.

And when you really think about it…one could make the argument that Walt Frazier is the guy most associated with Madison Square Garden.  Think about it.  The guy’s been a legend AND has essentially regularly worked at the Garden for over 50 years.  Now THAT is an icon!

Congrats to the best broadcasting team in the biz…Mike Breen and Walt “Clyde” Frazier!  Go, New York, go New York, go!  Now on to the rest of the Scoreboard!
