6 Fantastic Local Spots To Catch Sunday Football In The Freehold Area!

Including Freehold Boro, East Freehold, West Freehold, and all of the other little sub communities that are nestled in this Western Monmouth area, Freehold is huge! The Township itself is listed at over twelve thousand residents, according to the last census. So, logic would dictate that the more people there are, the more kick ass bars and restaurants there would be. Well the County Seat doesn’t disappoint.

There are literally dozens of places to grab a bite or knock back a brew. However, when it comes to Sunday NFL Football watching, there are a few spots that I personally believe are head and shoulders above the rest. A few I have been to once, maybe twice, while some others I have frequented for years. The one thing they all have in common, at least for this list, is that they all made a positive impression on me as solid Sunday options for football viewing.

The thing about Freehold is that unlike other communities I’ve written about this week; Belmar/Lake Como, and Red Bank for example, it’s so expansive that outside of downtown, it’s not a walking town. No, these are places you have to drive to, unless of course you live around the corner. So bar hopping from game to game as I suggested earlier in the week is not an option here. Find a place, get comfortable, and get ready for an afternoon of gridiron action!
Another great thing about the places on this list is that they are really all family friendly places. The kind of place you don’t mind bringing your kids to have some wings or pizza and a pitcher of Coke to watch some football. Not every place is like that these days, so it’s nice to know that there are still sports bars in the area that are so welcoming. Well enough build up, lets get to the list… The greater Freehold Area!

  • The Cabin 984 Route 33 Freehold

    Yup I gotta start here. One of my all time favorite places. The Google description of the Cabin says it all: A Rustic Bar, American Pub Grub, and Lively Atmosphere. Not to mention the stuff on the walls, and fantastic beer selection! Great place!

  • Tommy's Tavern + Tap 3492 Route 9 in Freehold

    For years this place was one of the more popular TGI Fridays in the state! Now, it’s the home of the incredible Tommy’s Tavern. Big and bold and ready for some football! Flat screen’s adorn the walls, and the food is dynamite. Try the pizza, coal fired wings or the sushi.

  • The Chapter House 1454 Route 9 Howell

    Warm, cozy and charming is how the folks at The Chapter House describe their little gem on Route 9 just south of the Freehold Howell boarder. Great food, locals kind of atmosphere, and just a nice place to watch the game.

  • The Ivy League 5 East 3rd Street Howell

    Just south of the Chapter House is The Ivy League. Another quaint family owned establishment that brings back memories of a simpler time. Family friendly, affordable prices, and god times on a Sunday afternoon. Great wings here too!

  • Moore's Tavern 402 West Main Street Freehold

    Ok so it’s only been around since 1787, but we won’t hold that against Moore’s Tavern. The OG of all sports bars in the state, this place is a MUST visit if you’ve never been. So why not on a Sunday for some pigskin action?  Great food, lively atmosphere, and it’s living history!

  • Game Time Bar and Grill 108 Schanck Road Freehold

    Located inside Iplay America, this place has had a few incarnations over the years, but seems to have found it’s grove as a great American sports bar. The food is good, as are the portions. there are interconnecting rooms so it’s got a big feel but yet you can find your spot in front of your game. Plus if you need a break you can always go play video games in Iplay!

  • Fireside Grill and Bar 133 South Main Street Marlboro

    5 minutes north of Freehold, up Route 79, lies Fireside Grill & Bar. Very interesting set up. You walk in to a large lobby area with a hostess station. Football and baseball painted murals on the wall. To the right is the dining room, to the left is the bar. Sports is a premium here. Even the dining room has tvs.  Plus they do incredible game day specials, like all you can eat ribs!
