Legendary film composer John Williams has been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Score for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.  Amazing!  At 91 years old…the greatest composer in movie history has lost nothing off of his fastball!  Congrats, John!

And in doing so…Williams has also made some Oscar history.  “The Maestro” has now been nominated 54 times…more than any other person alive (only Walt Disney has more nominations with 59).  Also, at 91, Williams is the oldest nominee in a competitive award category.  Pretty amazing!

And not only has John Williams written one brilliant cinematic score after another…he’s also composed some of the most iconic themes in television and pop culture…like the theme to the Olympics…which is used to this day…

…Or the theme to NBC Nightly News…also still used to this very day.

But it is his amazing and legendary work with Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, and others that showcase Williams’ uncanny ability to capture emotions onscreen and put them into music form.  He is the greatest ever.  So, we’ve made a list…it’s the Top 9 John Williams Scores ever…with audio!  So grab some popcorn, sit back, relax, and enjoy!  And congrats to him on the Oscar nom!  Incredible!

• 9.) Jaws

  Let’s get this music and movie party started with something iconic!  So we gotta go with Jaws…the first score that John Williams would compose for legendary director Steven Spielberg.  Their partnership on this film would lead to 50-year friendship which would yield one brilliant collaboration after another.

• 8.) Harry Potter

  Hey, it’s not all Steven Spielberg and George Lucas with John Williams…as evident for his utterly brilliant work on the first two Harry Potter flicks.  Williams created the fantastic and magical theme which they still use for Harry Potter to this day.

• 7.) Saving Private Ryan

  Spielberg’s epic World War II film has one incredible moment after another.  Sometimes, the movie almost gets too real…it can be a challenge to watch some of the battle scenes.  But John Williams’ heartfelt score gives the viewer some needed comfort during this amazing cinematic experience.

• 6.) Superman

  John Williams also created the legendary theme and music for the original Superman…and the score is absolutely tremendous.  Besides the famous main theme, I personally love the music he created for the planet Krypton.  Check it out…

• 5.) Born On The Fourth Of July

  People may not know that John Williams has composed spectacular scores for multiple Oliver Stone movies…including JFK, Nixon, and (my favorite score) Born On The Fourth Of July.  The music for this excellent Tom Cruise-led movie is powerful, rich, and moving.  Wonderful stuff.

• 4.) E.T.

  Man…I swear…I’ve always thought they should release a music-only version of E.T. where the audience watches the film but only hears John Williams’ masterpiece of a score.  This is one case where, as much as I love the film itself, I may actually love the score even more.  It’s AMAZING.

• 3.) Jurassic Park

  Good Lord, Jurassic Park is such an all-time great movie and the score is just as much a classic as the film itself.  Williams give the audience music for horror, humor, and wonder in this truly special score by the Maestro.

• 2.) Indiana Jones

  Upon hearing just the first few notes of this legendary score, the viewer is instantly transported into a different world of action and adventure.  Be advised: listening to the Indiana Jones theme song may influence you to start wearing a fedora while cracking a bull-whip.  You have been warned.

• 1.) Star Wars

  How can it be anything other than Star Wars which tops this list?  John Williams has done all nine episodes (from Phantom Menace to Rise Of Skywalker) and his music is the life-blood of the franchise.  Even within Star Wars itself…John Williams has composed so many legendary songs.  From Yoda’s Theme to the classic Imperial March…there’s hit after hit here.  George Lucas himself said that Williams’ music is the heart and soul of Star Wars…and George ain’t lying.  Simply iconic.
