Tis the season for some Holiday beers! The holidays are the time for beer drinkers everywhere to rejoice that the heavy gluttonous beers have returned!

The mixtures and combinations can be as exciting as a trip to the mall to sit on old Saint Nick’s lap! Ok maybe that’s a bad analogy, but I’m sorry, Christmastime beers are fun!

Fruits and Spices!

From dark cherries and figs, to honey and molasses. Ginger and Nutmeg, to Cinnamon and clove. The seasonal tastes we all enjoy in our holiday desserts are well represented in these holiday brews. Hence, most of the beers listed are stouts, due to the fact that a stout can hold up to these complex fruit, spice and sweet ingredients.

Careful, they pack a Santa sized punch!

Because of the high sugar content with fruit, sometimes even candy flavors fused into these holiday beers, they mostly all tend to have a high ABV, or alcohol by volume content. However, that does not demean their flavor whatsoever. In fact, that’s where you can get in trouble if you’re not careful. These holiday brews may go down easy, but they are much much stronger than traditional lagers, ales, pilsners, and even everyday stouts you may have. Some as much as 13 percent alcohol!

Pair them with your favorite holiday snacks.

Big cheese guy here. When it comes to holiday beers, I just love to match them with some really good cheese that I normally would not have. Maybe a good brie, or perhaps some really really sharp Vermont cheddar. Or my all time favorite cheese around the holidays, semi soft Swiss or Havarti with Caraway seeds. Great with any heavy holiday beer. Of course your garden variety pretzels, chips, nuts, ham, turkey or whatever, will do just fine when you have such amazing holiday alcohol around to match it with!
