Good morning, Sports fans! It’s Davey Mac here with your final Sports Report of the week! The Knicks are on fire! Hockey scores! And the big-time match-ups for the NFL Conference Championship Sunday are all discussed!
But we’ve decided to start today’s Report a little differently today. I don’t even know if Flashback Friday is still a thing…however, I just found the Flashback Video of all Flashback Videos. It’s this fantastic black-and-white film clip of New York Yankees legend Babe Ruth showing a group of children how to throw a curveball and knuckleball. Check it out!
I gotta tell ya…I love stuff like this. If you ever want to see even more amazing Babe Ruth footage, I strongly recommend to great documentaries. First, HBO did a fantastic documentary on the Sultan of Swat simply called Babe Ruth. It’s really good and packed with amazing stories about the Babe from some people who knew him.
And then HBO did another great doc in 2003 called The Curse Of The Bambino. This really fun special chronicles Babe Ruth getting traded by the Boston Red Sox to the Yankees…starting an 86-year curse between Boston World Series titles. The incredible thing is that the Red Sox finally broke the curse and won the Series in 2004.
Also, I recommend the ESPN SportsCentury episode from the late ’90’s which focused on Babe Ruth as well. You get more excellent archival footage and excellent takes from baseball stars and experts. Very solid stuff.
But my favorite Ruth doc is by Ken Burns for his truly spectacular docuseries Baseball. If you have never seen it and love Major League Baseball, I can’t recommend it enough. Burns takes viewers on a fascinating journey into the history of baseball. The photographs, the film footage, the interviews…they’re all priceless. Go check out Ken Burns’ Baseball wherever you can get PBS programming. Anyway, I’m Davey Mac…now on to the rest of the Sports Report!
