East Side Dave here and I love the movies and I love the Jersey, baby.   So why not combine them both?

I was thinking…who are the absolute BEST actors from the great Garden State?   There are so many to choose from (we really do have a lot of icons)…so there’s bound to be somebody great left off the list.

One rule: this is a male only actors list.   Only men on this one.   I’ll be doing a Top 5 Actresses From New Jersey tomorrow just for the ladies.   But this one is all about the Jersey boys!

So, BEHOLD!   It’s East Side Dave’s Top 5 Actors From New Jersey!   With video clips!   And it starts…right now!

• 5.) Ray Liotta

  Born and raised in Newark, Ray Liotta was electric actor with incredible intensity.   His roles in Goodfellas and Field Of Dreams are legendary.

• 4.) Danny DeVito

  Born in Neptune and raised in Asbury Park…Danny DeVito has been fantastic for years…going back to his work on Taxi…through Get Shorty, L.A. Confidential, and more…the man is a Jersey icon.   Hell…why else would they have him doing Jersey Mike’s commercials?!

• 3.) Joe Pesci

  Born in Newark and raised in Belleville…from his work with director Martin Scorcese alone (Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Casino, and The Irishman)…plus fantastic performances in JFK, Lethal Weapon movies, and Home Alone, and Pesci is a true Hall Of Famer.

• 2.) James Gandolfini

  Born in Westwood and raised in Park Ridge…James Gandolfini is as classic as it gets.   Because his most famous character, Tony Soprano, also resides in Jersey…this puts Gandolfini high on the list.   But let’s not forget great performances from James in the movies True Romance and Get Shorty as well!

   

• 1.) Jack Nicholson

  Born in Neptune City and raised in Neptune City and later Spring Lake (which is why he attended Manasquan High School)…Nicholson may not be just the best actor from New Jersey…he may be the greatest actor ever.   Look at his resume…from Easy Rider to Chinatown to One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest…The Shining, Batman, Hoffa, A Few Good Men, As Good As It Gets, About Schmidt, and MORE…the man is a LEGEND.   And the THREE Oscars (more than anyone on this list) confirm Jack’s icon status.   And…he’s from the Great Garden State!   In your face, Jersey-haters!   God bless Nicholson!   God bless Jersey!
