Today we’re celebrating the great Garden State and the world of cinema!   It’s the Top 5 Movies Based In Jersey!

Now the rules are pretty simple…the film has to be filmed AND set in the state of New Jersey.   In other words, we’re looking for pictures that were not only made in Jersey…but the movie’s characters have to be running around in Jersey onscreen.

So get ready for some Garden State fun!   The list begins right now!

  • 5.) The Wrestler

This amazing movie starring Mickey Rourke was shot in Asbury Park, Elizabeth, Garfield, Linden, Rahway, and other Jersey towns.

  • 4.) Lean On Me

This excellent film starred Morgan Freeman as Jersey high school principal Joe Clark and was filmed prominently in Franklin Lakes.

  • 3.) Cop Land

With an incredible cast (Sylvester Stallone, Harvey Keitel, Ray Liotta, Robert DeNiro)…the principal shooting for Cop Land was done in Edgewater.

  • 2.) Friday The 13th

Not only is Jason Voorhees’ Camp Crystal Lake set in New Jersey…but the iconic horror film was shot in Hope, Blairstown, and Hardwick Township.

  • 1.) Clerks

Kevin Smith’s low budget masterpiece has to top this list.   Not only are there tons of Jersey references (one of the clerks’ girlfriends goes to Monmouth University)…but the movie was filmed at the Quick Stop in Leonardo.
