Some would say we’ve saved the best (or saddest) for last. The old hangouts we loved and lost. The great bars and clubs from the past 25 years at the Jersey Shore that are no more.
This list could easily have 20 or more places on it, but I narrowed it down to 6 places I myself really enjoyed back in the day. Some have been gone well over a decade, while others closed up shop within the past 5 years. Regardless, they all were among my favorite places to hang at the shore ever since I moved here in the mid 90’s.
I think I’ve done a pretty good job of canvasing the landscape both in geography and style of establishment. Clubs, pubs, taverns and music bars are all here, or at least WERE all here once. They met their demise due to different circumstances for sure. from real estate deals, to Superstorm Sandy, to Covid. However I’m sure I’m not the only one to have fond memories of these fun joints!
I want to begin by giving shout outs to some honorable mention places. The could have easily been on the list as far as I’m concerned but I just was unable to get the info I needed, since some of them have been gone for so long. So shout outs to the old Scooters on Route 9 in Howell, 507 Main in Belmar, Bar Casablanca in Brielle, The Wooden Nickel in Belmar, The Beach Bar in Seaside Heights, and The Polo Club/The Tides in Neptune. All fabulous places and worth a mention!
So now here is my own personal list. Places I used to hang and maybe you did too! If not, I want to hear the spots you used to knock a few back and work your hookup game back in the day! You did have game back then, right??
