If You Don’t Have a Face Mask, Here’s The Next Best Thing
Members of the public wear surgical masks to protect themselves from coronavirus on March 17, 2020 in London, England. The Prime Minister announced the UK is entering the "delay" phase of emergency planning for the Covid-19 crisis. Schools will not be closed at this time although they have been asked to cancel school trips abroad. People with cold symptoms or a temperature are asked stay home for seven days.
According to San Francisco scientific researcher Jeremy Howard, we should all wear masks in public to help flatten the curve when it comes to fighting the coronavirus.
With Personal Protective Equipment in short supply, a do it yourself mask is the next best thing. Pointing to studies that prove the effectiveness of covering your face, Howard details in the Washington Post how to create one with simple materials that you could find in your home.
You can create a reusable mask out of a cut up old cotton t-shirt, or with paper towels and rubber bands you can make a disposable one.
There are plenty of “How To” tutorials on Youtube too. I found a “How To” using a bra. Check out the video below to see one way to create a face mask.
