Well, it’s finally here! Top O’ The Mornin’ to ya, Saint Patrick’s Week has arrived! That means tons of Irish fun for all ages around Ocean County!

With St Patrick’s Day and the wearin’ of the green coming up on Friday, many events have been planned for not just the day, but this whole week. Of course, many people recognize St Patrick’s Day as a time to go out to an Irish pub, where suddenly everyone is from the Emerald Isle.

However, St Patrick’s fun can be had not only with beer and revelry but with some other fun and creative activities.

Luckily, here in Ocean County, we have some very creative folks and organizations who really want everyone to be involved in this prelude to springtime. From Irish painting classes in Tuckerton to an authentic Irish tea in Toms River. Traditional Irish music at the Ocean County Library, to St. Patty’s cake decorating in Waretown. If you look hard enough, you can without a doubt find just the perfect way for you to celebrate St Patrick’s Day. Oh, and celebrate you should!

Some history!

St Patrick's Day Festival In London

According to Wikipedia, St Patrick’s Day is held on March 17th, as that is the date of the death of St. Patrick. the foremost patron saint of Ireland. The day commemorates him, and the arrival of Christianity to Ireland. It also celebrates the heritage and culture of the Irish people in general. So, where does beer drinking come from? Well, historically, the Lenten restrictions on eating and drinking alcohol were lifted for the day. Thus, propagating the holiday’s tradition of alcohol consumption. Well then! The more you know.

In closing, regardless of whether you imbibe or not on St. Patrick’s Day, be safe, have fun, and be sure to cast your smilin’ Irish eyes on this list of fun stuff to do this week in Ocean County, as we all become Irish, if not for the week, then just on Friday. Slante’!
