The day commemorates him, and the arrival of Christianity to Ireland. It also celebrates the heritage and culture of the Irish people in general. So, where does beer drinking come from? Well, historically, the Lenten restrictions on eating and drinking alcohol were lifted for the day. Thus, propagating the holiday’s tradition of alcohol consumption. Well then! The more you know.
