A Silverton Summer Party was held Wednesday evening to support the EMS that was abruptly closed earlier this summer by Mayor Rodrick. The party, which was held at the EMS building was an even bigger success than anticipated when the folks at the EMS came up with the idea. One attendee said there were at least 200 guests on the EMS grounds, located at 86 Maine Street in the Silverton section of Toms River.
This is just the latest evidence of how beloved the EMS is in the Silverton community and how needed they are. It also shows how thoughtless and heartless the Mayor and his administration have been in closing the EMS without any input or feedback prior from the Silverton community. Well, Mayor Rodrick certainly has feedback now, in the form of petitions, protests, and now parties.
“The theme of the event was to raise funds to hold the government accountable, regardless of political affiliation. There were numerous people there from “both” sides of the aisle and everyone and their thoughts were welcome without judgment,” said Kevin Geoghegan, Business Director of The Silverton EMS.
Geoghegan also went on to say Capones, Burger 25, and other restaurants donated food to the event, as well as Toms River Brewing. He concluded by saying all of those who attended had a great time.
It remains to be seen what if any effect this will have in the long term for the embattled EMS, but one thing is for sure, Silverton and their Emergency Medical Services team are not going down without a fight!
