Looking at the festivities at Yankee Stadium yesterday…Paul O’Neill was a classic Yankee and a true “Warrior” (as he was affectionately known by Yankee fans). O’Neill came to the Yankees in 1992 in a trade with the Cincinnati Reds. He would go on to play nine seasons for the Yanks…hitting .303 as a Bronx Bomber…making five All Star teams…winning four World Series titles…and becoming a team leader and fan favorite. O’Neill had the fire for baseball that Yankee fans loved. Whether he was attempting to stretch a single into a double with sheer hustle…or taking out his frustrations on the nearest water cooler…O’Neill had PASSION. Something THIS Yankee team is in desperate need of. The Yanks of 2022 could use O’Neill’s sheer competitive spirit and willingness to do anything for a win. He was the ultimate team-mate and a fantastic player on top of it. Congrats to Number 21…the great Paul O’Neill…The Warrior…on his wonderful Yankee honor. He deserves it!
