Details On The NJ Transit Crash
A light rail train hit a log on the track Monday morning in northern Burlington. A southbound River Line train hit the tree at 6:04 a.m. as it came up to Roebling Station in Florence. The operator of the train was killed, and 23 other passengers got non-life-threatening injuries, said a NJ Transit spokesperson.
Before the train service gets back on the tracks, officials will continue to “thoroughly evaluate” the spot where a light-rail train struck a log on the tracks Monday morning, according to a NJ Transit spokesperson. Track repairs are also being looked into after the deadly crash.
Who Was The Train Operator
The police did identify the NJ train operator as 41-year-old Jessica Haley a single mother of three boys from Levittown, Pennsylvania, and worked for 20 years as a contractor for NJ Transit, the family’s attorney says. The attorney says trees on or near the tracks in Mansfield have long been an issue. Meanwhile, Haley’s family is planning to sue. The lawsuit claims NJ Transit failed to protect passengers and the conductor by failing to keep the tracks free of trees and other debris. Jessica worked for 20 years as a contractor for NJ Transit.
