An all-you-can-eat Crab Feast is coming to the Whiting Firehouse on Saturday, October 12th, from 2 pm til 8 pm. The feast will feature big number 1 and Jumbo-sized crabs. The Whiting Firehouse is located at 120 Lacey Road in Whiting.
About The Whiting Fire Department
According to the Fire Department’s website, the Whiting Volunteer Fire Company No.1 was incorporated in 1937. It was the only fire company in Manchester Township until 1955. The first fire engine was kept in the garage at Allegrinia’s Bar, located at the end of Lakewood Avenue. Their first fire station was built and located on Central Avenue, Between Manchester Blvd. and Cherry Street, which housed the company’s first new fire truck which was a 1947 Ward La France; the building was a two-bay garage- no other rooms; the trucks had to be pulled out for any function. A Wood wood-burning stove in the rear of one bay supplied heat to the building. The station had a large metal ring that was hit with a sledgehammer to alert the members of a fire call.
Fast forwarding to 2002, the department built a separate new building to house our fire trucks, this building has three drive-thru bays, and will hold six trucks. In this new building, they also added a cascade System, which will fill the self-contained breathing apparatus in the house. As the community grows and so does the department the need for additional equipment, and training is always there. In 2009 the Ladies Aux. restarted the weekly bingo which is held every Wednesday night to try to help to defray the growing cost of daily operations.
All You Can East Crab Feast Tickets
Tickets for the All You Can Eat Crab Feast are $55 in advance, $45 in advance for seniors, and $65 at the door the day of the event. Meanwhile, children 10 and under can eat for free! In addition to the All You Can Eat Crab Feast, there will be side salads, crabs with spaghetti, and much more!
