I love a good breakfast or brunch place. I have a few favorites that I stick with, but I wonder about the places I’ve never tried or even heard of.

There are a few places on this list I never knew existed. For instance, my colleague, Jimmy Steal mentioned that he and his family enjoyed a great meal at a fantastic breakfast place in Brick, N.J. called Taylor Sam’s. I told him that I’d never heard of the place, and then asked how he found out about it. He said, “My wife and daughter have eaten there and raved about the food.”

I immediately Googled the restaurant and perused the menu. HOLY MOLY, the list of dishes caused my salivary glands to go into overdrive.

Omelets are my usual choice for breakfast or brunch, but if there is an unusual Eggs Benedict selection, I’m all in.

Here are the 10 places to get a great breakfast according to the folks who comment on the Wednesday Warrior’s Food Tour page on Facebook.

  • Taylor Sam's - 643 NJ-88, Brick Township, NJ 08724

Two words describe Taylor Sam’s best, “Home Cooking.” That’s all I needed to hear! One of the first things listed on their breakfast menu is called, Vicious Biscuit. Homemade biscuits, YES! It consists of Homemade Cheddar Jalapeno Biscuit, Creamy Pimiento Cheese, Crispy Buttermilk Fried Cauliflower, Doused in Hot Honey Glaze, Choice of Egg Style over Home Fried Potatoes.

  • Grits & Grace - 507 Atlantic City Blvd, Bayville, NJ 08721

I really need to explore Bayville! This place got on my radar courtesy of a few folks on the food pages I belong to on social media. Lawrence and Kaitlin on the Wednesday Warrior pages told me that I must include this place. Once you look at the menu, you’re going to have a very tough time deciding what to order because the menu is filled with many not so ordinary choices. Check this out: The Bombellete – It’s a 3 egg omelette jammed with country fried steak, American cheese, smothered with sausage gravy! That is enough to get me through their doors.

  • John & Elaine's Restaurant - 1103 Richmond Ave, Point Pleasant, NJ 08742

Talk about being off my radar! Marc in Point Pleasant mentioned it as one of his favorite places to grab a substantial breakfast and Laura from Point Pleasant told me that the place is like walking into a time warp. The food is consistent and plentiful. Another reviewer  commented, “It has a warm, family-oriented atmosphere with kitschy signs boasting world’s best pancakes, famous eggs benedict and country style breakfasts.”

  • Sandy's Cafe - 2030 NJ-88, Brick Township, NJ 08724

Thanks to AnneMarie for the suggestion! Another place that’s new to me and everyone else.

Established in 2022, we are a Jersey Shore cafe serving a mix of traditional dishes that you will find to be “kicked up” a notch. We are excited to work with local suppliers to deliver the freshest and highest quality ingredients to our guests’ tables! Dine-in or take away we are here for the community.

Kara and Ken are first-time restaurant owners. They picked Brick, New Jersey so they both can be near their Moms.♥ ♥

  • POPPY'S PLACE - 290 W Water St, Toms River, NJ 08753

My friend Andra takes her mom here for breakfast, plus John N. made the first recommendation on socials.  I’ve heard a  few people say they make the best pork roll egg and cheese in the area, and the prices are reasonable. The atmosphere is 50s kitsch. If you’re going for lunch, the patty melt is a must have.

  • Brownstone Pancake Factory - 979 Cedar Bridge Ave, Brick Township, NJ 08723

The Brownstone Pancake Factory has a lot of history up in North Jersey and is the culmination of one family’s thriving love for the food business and vision for an endearing atmosphere that is so hard to duplicate. The secret has been simple: our family. It’s breakfast all day long, and I like that!! A killer list of omelettes, Benedicts, fancy French toast dishes, and the most insane milkshakes you’ve ever seen.

  • Shut Up and Eat - 804 Main St, Toms River, NJ 08753

This place holds a special place in my heart. I used to take my friend Sharon here for breakfast and it made her really happy. Unfortunately, Sharon passed away last November, but my 25 years of Sharon memories live on. This is a fun place to go. The servers are dressed in pajamas, and if you show up wearing your pajamas, you get 10% off.  It’s one of the Jersey Shore’s most unique breakfast and lunch places. I lost count of how many Asbury Park Press Reader’s Awards they’ve won over the years. I must warn you, the menu has so many things to choose from, so please look at the menu online first to narrow down your choices. I’m telling you, this place rocks!

  • C&G's Country Cafe - 213 NJ-37 UNIT 9, Toms River, NJ 08753

Diane on the Wednesday Warrior’s page highly recommends this place. It’s in the shopping center where K-Mart used to be on 37 East. The menu  looks solid with some eclectic items.  They also have Vegan choices for those who desire.

  • Sandy's Cozy Corner - 414 NJ-70, Lakehurst, NJ 08733

Another old school eatery run by a woman who started out waiting tables, and that’s a good thing.  When longtime waitress, Sandy Dreyer, decided to open Sandy’s Cozy Corner in 1999, she knew she was on to something really special. Anchored in the close-knit community of Lakehurst, Sandy’s is a place where all are welcome. Rustic and unpretentious, our cozy interior invites you to nestle in and enjoy your comfort food favorites amongst friends. My favorite is old school fat sausage links with my swiss cheese omelette. When I go to a place like this, I don’t want fancy, I want comfort!

  • The Sunny Side Up Cafe - 664 Mantoloking Rd, Brick Township, NJ 08723

I love these little out of the way places. You know, the places you’ve driven past a million times in the last 2 years and have never stopped to see what they’re all about until a friend mentions them. I hear the wait on Sunday’s is insane. According to Kelsey, they get it right all the time.  Marie chimed in with, “Amazing egg Benedicts! The staff is also super friendly and gave off a warm atmosphere. I would highly recommend for brunch!”
