We are nearing the latter half of Summer vacation, which means we are running out of time to find things to do. Luckily for you, we’ve compiled a list of things to do at Monmouth County Parks! Some of these items happen on more than one occasion this year, so if you missed out, you will have another chance. Or, if you loved it that much, you can go again!

Find Things to Do At Monmouth County Parks

  • Fishing 101 : A Beginner’s Guide to Fishing - August 8th, 15th, 22nd

    Make your way to the Manasquan Reservoir in Howell for Fishing 101! For newbies, take this opportunity to learn how to rig, bait, cast, and hopefully catch your first fish. Bait and tackle will be provided!You honestly can’t do any worse than me because the only thing I can catch is a cold! Come and go anytime to this totally free event. Open to all ages; under 14 with adult supervision. NOTE: A fishing license will be REQUIRED for those ages 16-69. More info HERE.

  • Seining Along Sandy Hook Bay - Now Until August 23rd

    This is a different kind of fishing. Maybe a little more advanced. It’s fishing with a large net! Down at Bayshore Waterfront Park, discover a variety of fish, crabs, and other sea life you can pull along in your seine net! It will be a fun time for you and the family as you learn about what swims in the Bay! Open to all ages; Under 18 with an adult. NOTE: There will be NO SWIMMING during this event, and close-toed shoes WILL be required. I recommend wearing something you don’t mind getting wet and sandy. This event runs from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM.   • Thompson Park Canoe Rentals - August 17th, 18th, 31st

    Enjoy your time at Thompson Park in Lincroft from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM out on Marlu Lake! Canoes will be available to rent, and all needed equipment will be provided! This is open to all ages; under 18 with adult supervision. For $15, you can rent your vessel for 1-3 people!  Cash or check ONLY! There are a limited number of canoes available. Pre-register HERE.

  • Seabrook-Wilson House Open - August 11th, 12th, 15th, 18th, 19th, 22nd, 25th, and 26th

    Located at Bayshore Waterfront Park, Port Monmouth, check out this special house that dates back to the early 1700s. It’s even listed on the National Register of Historic Places! Be sure to see the displays of the ecology of the bay and learn a little more about local history.

  • Open Shoot Archery - August 10th

    For those of us who always thought Legolas was the best part of the Lord of The Rings Franchise, we have open-shoot archery! Head on over to Thompson Park Activity Barn in Lincroft. 
    All equipment is provided! Note, that this is NOT designed for beginners. This is an instructional clinic. Open to all ages 10 and up; under 18 with an adult. It is $10 per person; cash or check only! 

  • Under the Summer Stars - August 13th

    Ever wonder what is really out there? Give this a shot! Follow a guide and look for key objects and constellations in the night sky at the Dorbrook Recration Area in Colts Neck. 

    Be sure to bring a camp chair to rest, and a flashlight to find your way in the dark. Open to all ages; under 18 with an adult. FREE TO JOIN 

  • Accordian Melodies of the 1890s - August 17th

    Is modern music not your thing? Chin up! From 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm, at the Historic Longstreet Farm in Holmdel, sit back, relax, and enjoy some accordion tunes!

  • Bluegrass and Old-Time Music - August 18th

    Ok, maybe Accordion is not your thing and you skip Saturday. What about Sunday? 

    At Thompson Park, Linceoft, just outside the Theater Barm from 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm, enjoy a Bluegrass jam session!

    Bring your own bass, bajo fiddle, or guitar to join in! Or if playing isn’t your thing, just stop and enjoy the music. 

  • Casual Birder - August 27th

    Starting at 9:00 Am at Fisherman’s Cove Conservative in Manasquan,  meander through the park with a System Naturalist and see what birds you can find! 

    No need to be an expert to enjoy the fun. A limited number of binoculars will be available to borrow at this FREE event.

  • Dancing Thru The Ages - Roaring 20s to Fabulous 50s & Beyond - August 24th

    Dancing Thru the Ages – Roaring 20s to Fabulous 50s & Beyond

    Feel the nostalgia!  Be taken through the history of social jazz dance in America. This will be showcasing dance styles born in America and influenced by trendsetting musical styles of the times. Start in the 1920s and travel through to the 1950s and beyond! 

    This FREE PERFORMANCE  goes from 7:00 P.M to 8:30 PM at Thompson Park Theater Lincroft. It is presented by Jumpin Entertainment featuring The Roaring Rascals & Team Lindyland.

  • Cookstove Demonstrations - August 31st

    At the historic Longstreet Farm in Holmdel! See what’s cooking on the woodstove! Take this opportunity to discover how recipes, cooking techniques and even the kitchen have changed since the late 19 century! Admission is free!
