Drag Brunch Headed To Toms River Elks
The infamous Pork Roll & Eggs Drag Brunch Show is headed back to Toms River, where it caused such a stir earlier this year. This time around the Brunch show will be heading to the Toms River Elks Club, located at 600 Washington Street in Downtown Toms River.
Here Are Some Details.
The show happens on Sunday, July 14th, from 11 am until 2 pm inside the Elks Club. The cost is 40 dollars for brunch-style food, and there will also be a cash bar. Scheduled to perform that day are Drag Show stars Nessa Skye, Crystal Envy, and Kimmy Sumony. Meanwhile, the event is open to the public.
Modern Drag In The United States.
In The United States, evidence of drag dates back to the days of the Gold Rush, in saloons in California. However, Drag in the States took off in the ’60s and ’70s, thanks to the Counter Culture movement within Hollywood and the Rock Music industry. Artists like David Bowie and Kiss promoted their careers with pseudo-drag stage presences and gender-bending personas. Today Drag is more accepted than ever as a legitimate form of entertainment.
Recent controversy.
Back in January, Roxy’s Bar & Grill in the Silverton section of Toms River came under fire from locals when it hosted the first of two ultimately successful shows there. Not only because of the nature of the show but also the perceived “All Ages” aspect of the event’s promotion. By all accounts, there were no children at those drag performances. I wrote about the announcement of the initial performance.

Sadly for Roxys, the success of the Drag Shows, didn’t help them enough, as they closed for good a short time later.
