Volbeat is one of over 50 artists contributing to The Metallica Blacklista compilation of covers from Metallica’s self-titled 1991 album (aka: “The Black Album”), which turns 30 next month.

The Danish band chose to cover “Don’t Tread On Me.” The cover can be heard via the music video below.

Frontman Michael Poulsen said of the cover, “We didn’t want to touch any of the big hits on that album, which is quite difficult because they’re all hits, somehow. We were trying to pick a song that you don’t hear as much from that album, and the most important thing was to pick a song where we could transform it into a Volbeat song. ‘Don’t Tread on Me’ definitely had a swing that I could turn into a Volbeat swing, and it turned out really great.”

In addition to The Metallica Blacklist, Metallica is also reissuing The Black Album. Both titles are due out September 10 and are currently available for pre-order at Metallica.com.
