David Coverdale has been consistently touring for decades, but could the Whitesnake frontman see retirement in the near future? Perhaps, but in the most cheeky, Coverdale way possible.
Coverdale recently appeared on Talkin’ Rock with Meltdown and said of performing again once the coronavirus pandemic flattens, “I have a feeling it’s gonna take a little while to get things back to any semblance of what we knew before. So what we have to do is think outside the box. I have to get this surgery and get up and running. And what better age for the Whitesnake lead singer to go out and retire on — 69 [laughs.]”
When pressed on actually retiring, Coverdale said, “I’ve always written songs that challenge me as a vocalist, and I’m 68 now. So I think 69 would be appropriate for Whitesnake’s lead singer [to retire], wouldn’t you? I’d like to design that t-shirt.”
As previously stated, very cheeky, and frankly, that t-shirt would probably be a big seller.
Shortly after Whitesnake postponed tour dates due to the coronavirus pandemic, Coverdale announced he had a bilateral inguinal hernia that required surgery and that all 2020 tour dates would be canceled. Of course, here’s hoping touring can resume in 2021, and Whitesnake will be back at it live on stage.
