On first glance, Guns N’ Roses and Smashing Pumpkins seem to be odd tourmates. One comes from the Sunset Strip, the other from the late ’80s alt-rock scene. But they have a lot in common: both bands are run by frontmen with off-the-charts talent and iron wills. Both are heavily influenced by Queen — and that influence helped them to transcend their respective scenes.

And no one expected to Axl Rose to invite Slash and Duff McKagan back into Guns N Roses; likewise, no one thought that Billy Corgan would bring Jimmy Chamberlin and James Iha back into Smashing Pumpkins.

Now both bands will be sharing the stage at a handful of U.S. shows. See the dates below.

July 8 – Citizens Bank Park -Philadelphia
July 11 -Comerica Park -Detroit
July 13 -Rogers Centre – Toronto
July 16 – Nationals Park Washington, DC
July 18 – Metlife Stadium – East Rutherford, NJ
July 21 – Fenway Park – Boston

Tickets go on sale to the general public for North American dates starting Friday, February 7 at 12pm local time at LiveNation.com.
