PARK CITY, KS - FEBRUARY 26: Police tape hangs across the street in front of the house that Dennis Rader lives in February 26, 2005 in Park City, Kansas. Rader is the suspect whom police have arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder in connection with the 10 deaths now tied to the serial killer known as BTK.

Two New Jersey cities are, unfortunately, on the United States of America’s murder capital list for 2022. This list features 30 United States cities with the highest number of murders per 1,000 residents. The Neighborhood Scout used cities in their research that had at least 25,000 residents.

The first New Jersey city that made the list was Camden. Camden ranked No. 24 out of the 30 cities listed. The murder rate in the South Jersey city is .32 per 1,000 residents. The number of murders have been 23 for 2022 which is 4.9 times the United States average.

Trenton N.J. made the list at No. 12 with a murder rate of .44 per 1,000 residents with 40 murders this year so far. This is 6.8 times the U.S. national average.

Earlier this year, The Neighborhood Scout put out a list where the top 100 cities in the United States were ranked for being the most violent. Unfortunately, both Camden and Trenton made that list as well. Camden came in at No. 14, Trenton at No. 57. Additonally, Paterson, N.J. came in at No. 97.

Despite making this list Camden, Trenton, and Paterson all have amazing attributes and contribute to the historic makings of New Jersey.

Camden has a rich history. The South Jersey city is the home of the Battleship New Jersey right on its waterfront. The Battleship New Jersey is a floating museum and if you’re lucky enough to score VIP tickets to the unique ship, visitors can shoot off a large gun mounted on the top of the deck. It, of course, shoots blanks but it makes you feel like you’re actually participating on a real-life battleship.

Trenton is the capital of New Jersey. Since it is the capital of the state, incoming visitors should visit the New Jersey Museum to learn all about how the Garden State is better than theirs (joking, but not really).

In Paterson, there is a unique castle called the Lambert Castle which is owned by the Passaic County Historical Society. Guests can visit the castle and have a beautiful view of the New York City skyline from the grounds.
