Actual human beings in our great state of New Jersey are my guides when it comes to finding out where the best of anything can be located. I actually put in the work to present an HONEST outcome.
I never create a list that is NOT based on other people’s opinions. There are times I insert my own opinion into the mix, but one person’s opinion just isn’t enough. It’s all about the people and the food they love.
It’s time to find out where to go to find the best burgers in New Jersey according to the people. Thanks to all the fine folks who participated in my survey for pointing me in the direction of where to find these juicy hunks of meaty goodness. I appreciate all of you. My friend Lisa Kosty is a Jersey girl. She lives in Chicago these days and does middays on The New 100.3 WSHE. When Lisa comes back to Jersey to visit family and friends, she heads to Clark, N.J. for a solid burger from this old school joint celebrating over 75th years serving the community.
Big Dogs Cafe - 2039 NJ-37, Toms River, NJ 08753
This place sits in the same spot formerly occupied by the iconic Joe Joe’s Italian Hot Dogs & Chomp. I have met several folks who love this place and their burgers. I’ve heard great things about the onion rings, the flat breads, and the breakfast which is served from 7 am to 10:30 am. We welcome Big Dogs Cafe to Toms River.
Bam Bam Burger Co. - 522 Bay Ave, Point Pleasant Beach, NJ 08742
Top quality ingredients served in a comfortable space. Carly suggested the Bacon Mac & Cheese Burger, and Evan P. said he devoured the Shroom & Swiss Burger like it was his last day on Earth. They also offer Salmon Burgers and Black Bean Veggie Burgers if meat isn’t your thing.
Nip N Tuck Bar & Grill - 23 Norwood Ave, Long Branch, NJ 07740
The Nip’s location has been a bar for 70 years, and it’s been operating as The Nip N Tuck since 1964. This was one of the first bars I went to when I moved to Ocean Twp. back in 96′. It’s been a women owned establishment since 2001 and they serve up some really good burgers and bar food. The Wangs (wings) are a good thing.
Trap Rock Restaurant & Brewery - 279 Springfield Ave, Berkeley Heights, NJ 07922
Mary C. from WOYP, told me this is her place. Kyle J also gave this place high praise. He said before you order your delicious burger, get the Double Chicken Dumpling Soup, you won’t be sorry. The Brewers Burger has caramelized onions, Pepper Jack Cheese, pickles, lettuce, tomato, rosemary aioli, and fries.
Danny's Place - 2104 Sunset Ave, Ocean Township, NJ 07712
Geri loves this unassuming place that’s kind of like an old fashioned coffee shop-luncheonette. Not only do they have yummy burgers, their breakfast dishes will take you back in time and so will the service. Friendly folks serving up simple food.
Center Square Tavern - 20 Center Square Road Suite 109 Near JB Liquor Woolwich Twp, Swedesboro, NJ 08085
The burgers are made to order in their scratch kitchen. Great bartenders, excellent burgers, especially the Short Rib Burger. Michael S. believes it’s the best burger he’s ever had. Made with House Braised Short Rib, Roasted Mushrooms, Swiss Cheese, Toasted Brioche Bun, House Cut French Fries. I’m in Michael.
Mahwah Bar & Grill - 2 Island Rd, Mahwah, NJ 07430
Saide T. let me know that when you want good pub grub this place delivers. They have a mouthwatering list of 8 ounce burgers like “The Franklin Turnpike”, complete with Jack Daniel’s BBQ sauce, mushrooms, bacon, cheddar cheese, onion rings, and garlic mayo.
Kaminski's Sports Bar & Restaurant - 1424 Brace Rd, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034
Adrian from the South Jersey Food Scene drops into this local place with a comfortable vibe for a good burger as well as good all American comfort food. All burgers here are half a pound and made to order with a special blend of certified Angus sirloin and ground premium chuck on Le Bus Brioche rolls with French fries, lettuce, and tomato. The Buffalo Wontons on the Starters portion of the menu have me salivating.

The Butcher's Block - 235 West Ave, Long Branch, NJ 07740
Tom F. and Isaac M. love this place. I’ve called to get a reservation on a couple of occasions and I was either hung up on, or told they don’t do reservations for 2 people. It’s too bad because my friend Tom said the food is on point and the burgers and steaks are out of this world. I’ll take your word for it Tom. All of their steaks are dry-aged in house for 30 to 60 days. The Butcher shop has a meat delivery service with some of the finest cuts of beef, pork chops and sausages you’ll find in the County.

Cassandra swears that burgers at this place are flawless. In addition to great burgers, they have juicy chicken sandwiches, falafel, kabobs, next level fries, creamy shakes, and more.
Klee's Bar & Grill - 101 Boulevard, Seaside Heights, NJ 08751
I love Klee’s!! I’m so glad several folks made sure I included them on the best burger list. I have to say their sliced garlic steak is delicious and filling. Next time, I’ll go for a burger. All 1/2 LB burgers are served with a pickle and a choice of French fries, coleslaw, broccoli slaw, or potato salad. Don’t forget to order an ice cold frosty bev from the bar. Oh, and make sure you try their famous pizza. The Great White Pie will bowl you over.
Cloverleaf Tavern - 395 Bloomfield Ave, Caldwell, NJ 07006
In business since 1933 and still going strong. My friend, radio legend Harris Allen gave me a couple of suggestions of where to find a good burger, and this was one of them. Not only were they voted the Best Beer Bar in the Northeast, their burgers have won awards. I’m entranced with the Bacon Fusion Burger, a blend of fresh ground beef and ground bacon. Topped with Pepper Jack cheese, fresh made guacamole and applewood smoked bacon on a toasted pretzel roll.
Cavé Bistro - 515 Sylvania Ave, Avon-By-The-Sea, NJ 07717
This is a seasonal Farm To Table Gem in Avon-By-The-Sea. Catering to meat lovers, meat free folks, and folks who need to eat gluten free. All selections are prepared with love and passion by Chef Doug. My friends, Elaine and Sal are at a loss for words when it comes to eating any grass-fed burger Chef Doug has to offer. This week, they’re offering a burger called, “The Bison, The Duck, and The Egg.” Goodness gracious, this looks like paradise on a plate. It’s a fresh ground Bison burger with duck fat folded in, topped with a fried egg. Avocado and Sriracha over Sweet Potato Hash Browns, and seasonal greens. Then there’s the “Grass-Fed Beef Roasted Marrow Burger.” Heaven help me, this is like visiting an alternate universe. It’s topped with Bacon-Onion Jam, Kerrygold Cheddar, on a soft gluten free Potato Roll and a side of Duck Fat Truffle Fries. Chef Doug, please take my money, NOW!!

Another one of Harris Allen’s favorite joints to grab a burger. The original location opened in 1947 next to the Annin Flag Company on Bloomfield Avenue. Burgers, brews, and all the things you can expect from your friendly neighborhood tavern.
Bottle Hill Tavern - 3 Waverly Pl, Madison, NJ 07940
Happy Hour is Tuesday-Friday 3-5 PM with 1/2 price beer, wine, drinks and appetizers. Nadine lovrs their 10 ounce burger, made to order. Beef, poultry, seafood, and plenty of starters and sides to keep you satisfied.
East Coast Burger Company - 75 Franklin Ave, Ridgewood, NJ 07450
Lou has been singing the praises of ECB and one of the owners, Michael Feldman for quite a while. I trust his taste buds. The burgers are delicious, the fries are crispy, and the service is great.
