It’s impossible to hit every great sandwich joint in Monmouth County no matter how long you’ve lived in New Jersey. I have eaten in a few of these places on the list over the years, and the places I haven’t had the pleasure of visiting come by word of mouth, and some of these places come from reviews from my favorite food lovers on Facebook.

A huge high five to Tom Fornicola, Lou Puentes, Frank Lettieri, and the whole Wednesday Warriors Food Tour crew page on Facebook. Those guys have eaten their way through New Jersey and beyond, so I trust their reviews. I love you guys!!

There are definitely more than 10 great sandwich makers in the county, so don’t come for me if I didn’t mention one of your favs, just add it to the list in the comments section if you see this list pop up on social media.

I’m sure you’ll notice that a few of these places are in close proximity to WRAT Radio in Lake Como, that’s where I work.

  • Mike’s Giant Subs – 700 8th Ave Belmar, N.J 07719

This was one of the first places I visited when I moved to N.J. back in 96. The place still rocks the fresh meat and cheeses. Hearty portions and killer bread.

  • The Speakeatery - 705 Cookman Ave, Asbury Park, NJ 07712

This is a breakfast and lunch place that focuses on unique, appetizing sandwiches from a breakfast sandwich that includes fried shrimp, a sunny side up egg, with bacon, arugula with a dill shallot aioli, to a lunch sandwich they call “The General.” General Tso’s chicken with a variety of crisp vegetables, served on a rice bun.

  • Hoagitos - 807 Belmar Plaza, Belmar, NJ 07719

All I hear is how good and crispy the chicken sandwiches are! They serve fried chicken sandwiches, sliders, and more. Hoagitos is the latest restaurant to develop out of the flourishing trend of mixing fast food convenience with high quality fare.

  • Elsie's Sub Shop - 74 Monmouth St, Red Bank, NJ 07701

Right down the road from the Count Basie Center For The Arts. When a place has been around since 1959, you don’t question the quality of the food…ever!! They are also very supportive of the arts in the community. The sweet Italian sausage sub is my go to.

  • Neil's Kitchen - 126 West End Court, Long Branch

Awarded Top 10 Best Subs back in 2016.  Awarded Top 33 Best Delis in NJ back in 2021, and listed as one of the Top 50 Shore Restaurants you must visit in 2022 from NJ.com. Cold subs, hot subs, specialty subs, Neil’s has the goods. Neil’s stole my heart with  the slow roasted bbq pork with sauteed onions, bacon, pepper jack cheese, and a nice helping of Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ Sauce. Neil’s also heats you up with their delicious hearty soups!

  • Berg's Smoked Meat & Poutine - 1405 Main St, Belmar, NJ 07719

Poutine is the Canadian version of Jersey’s beloved disco fries. Not really, but it is fries with gravy, and cheese curds . Red potatoes are doubled fried until they are golden brown & delicious. We top them with fresh squeaky cheese curds from upstate NY, and finally pour scratch made beef gravy over the whole darn thing. Let’s mention the star of Berg’s, The Montreal smoked meat!  It’s beef brisket, dry cured with 12 different spices for 14 days, smoked over oak wood for 8 hours, steamed for 3 hours, & finally hand slice to order. Everything is made from scratch! No frozen crap here.

  • Grossman's Deli - 2005 NJ-35, Oakhurst, NJ 07755

Located in Towne Center in Oakhurst, Quality, Quantity, and Impeccable service. Just ask Frank Lettieri and Tom Fornicola from the Wednesday Warriors food page on Facebook. These guys should change their last names to Grossman. Great Burgers, Corned Beef, all kinds of deli sandwiches, breakfast sandwiches, wraps, subs and more. We also fresh bake our hard rolls & Rye bread every day.

    Tom & Frank

  • Sorrento's Subs - 690 Park Ave, Freehold, NJ 07728

Another place that’s been around for several decades. I’ve never been here, but many of my friends and listeners have, and they can’t say enough good things about this Freehold establishment.  Russ left his review on Google: This Sorentos sub shop is amazing. I’ve been going here since I was a little kid. Now everytime I come back to visit I eat here. Subs are a great price and size, fast service clean place great staff.
Hot and cold subs served and they have breakfast on the other side of the building.

  • Taliercios Ultimate Gourmet 544 Route 35 Union Square Mall, Middletown, NJ

Warriors at TalierciosI see more rave reviews on this place than any other Monmouth County deli. Actually calling it a deli might be an insult, because Taliercios  is so much more than sandwiches. Their sandwiches are the items people write home about. Since opening its doors in 1988, Taliercio’s Gourmet Deli has operated as an extension of the Taliercio home. Friendly faces, lively banter and, sometimes even a compassionate ear, are served daily alongside of overstuffed sandwiches and heaping platters of homemade comfort food.

  • Angelo's Italian Market - 68 Oceanport Ave, Little Silver, NJ 07739

When you look up proper sub in the dictionary, this place will be at the first place you see. If you have high standards when it comes to Italian delis, this place will meet your expectations. Again, another place that is more than sandwiches! Most everything they make hits 5 out of 5 stars. The arancini will take you back to Nonna’s kitchen.
