Fisherman Washed Off Jetty, Roads Flooded In Manasquan From Effects Of Hurricane Ernesto

Ernesto is already causing a ruckus. Here at Manasquan Inlet at the Jersey shore on Saturday, a fisherman washed off the north jetty! Flash flood watches and advisories were in full effect for our areas. Tropical Storm Ernesto went away from Bermuda on Sunday. He headed out in the eastern Atlantic, but it still sent crazy swells toward the U.S. East Coast, giving us nasty rip currents associated with at least one death and a bunch of rescues too. The National Weather Service posted, that the rip currents are getting serious and they are saying they “can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water.” This warning is going from Florida to Boston and even sections of Maine. So please be extra careful when swimming and always check with the local lifeguards before heading out. What Happened With The Fisherman? At Manasquan Inlet here in Jersey, officials said a fisherman was washed off the north jetty Saturday but was quickly rescued by lifeguards, thank God. The person did have knee and back injuries and some are saying even a concussion and was taken to a local hospital. Lifeguard Chief Doug Anderson told reports, that lifeguards rescued at least five other people. Stunning video shows surfing on the Manasquan Inlet due to unique conditions this year. More To Come From Hurricane Ernesto Ernesto came through the northeastern Caribbean, leaving thousands of people without water in Puerto Rico. The power company LUMA said it had restored electricity to more than 1.4 million customers, but service data Sunday showed more than 61,000 without power. Ernesto's center is now moving away from Bermuda and toward the East Coast of the United States. It's expected to bring "dangerous beach conditions" and even "life-threatening surf and rip current conditions" to North Carolina and South Carolina, as well as the Bahamas and Bermuda, over the next couple of days, though it's not likely to make landfall in the U.S. Late Monday night, Ernesto is ready to pass near southeastern Newfoundland, Canada. The roads in Manasquan were flooded! However everyone still found a way to get there and show their support!
