Hurricane Forecast Map Shown And Storm Coming Up The East Coast

Possible Hurricane Named Ernesto Might Be Coming Up The Coast.

NOAA NWS National Hurricane Center

Here we go again, as we say goodbye to tropical storm Debby as she heads up the coast through the Northeast bringing us heavy rain and flooding, there is another storm brewing with an 80% chance of becoming a hurricane. According to the National Hurricane Center , it's named hurricane Ernesto.

Debby took off to the eastern Canadian coast after making two stops in this part of North America sadly taking the lives of 8 people. Parts of North Carolina and Virginia were slammed with 3 to 7 inches of rain, with other spots hit with up to 10 inches.

What To Expect From Storm Ernesto

This storm is brewing right now east of the Lesser Antilles which started on Sunday morning. This will have a chance to build in the next 48 hours, and is at a high of 70 percent and for the next seven days even higher at 90 percent. Tropical storm watches have been given for some areas, including Puerto Rico, and tropical storm warnings have been issued for some spots of the Leeward Islands.

Some forecasters said this could be a "Potential Tropical Cyclone Five," and could even become a major hurricane in the next couple of days as it will go through the Caribbean. We will know more by the middle of this week and forecasters are warning us that this storm could get up to at least a Category 1 hurricane as it travels through the warm waters.

Here is what we know so far of the storm, the location is 525 miles east-southeast of Antigua, and 830 miles east-southeast of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and the wind speeds are just about 30mph. What to keep an eye on with this tropical storm is the British Virgin Islands, U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Vieques, and Culebra.

On October 29, 2012, Hurricane Sandy made landfall marking it the costliest disaster in Garden State history. The category 3 hurricane also known as "Superstorm Sandy" devastated the East Coast with it especially taking a tremendous toll on New Jersey and the Jersey Shore.

The Department of Environmental Protection's data revealed that 346,000 homes were either damaged or destroyed in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, 2 million people lost power, and 38 lives were lost. This totaled up to $30 billion in economic damage for the state of New Jersey.

Now, ten years later, we are looking back at what some are still recovering from to this day in the year 2022. The destruction of Hurricane Sandy sustained 80 mph winds, a record-breaking storm surge, and even swept away some of the most famed landmarks in the state.

No matter where you were that day, what grade you were in, what job you had, or how old you were, everyone has a story to tell. And although the photos below were taken ten years ago, they will never get easier to look at.

Gotts is the unofficial mascot of the county. Whenever WRAT is hosting an event, people ask if Gotts will be there. there. Like Bigfoot, many people claim to see him in the area. According to Gotts, he was thrown out of home school in Monroe Township. To keep up with his own legend, Gotts likes writing about wacky local news that happens – such as pepperoni vandals. His favorite movie is Point Break, and is a big lover of Miller Lite. His favorite words to live by are “The windshield is always bigger than the rearview mirror”.
