Powerball Jackpot Hits $200 Million for January 6 Drawing
The next Powerball drawing gives players a chance at $200 million, with winners able to take home a $90.7 million cash option on Jan. 6, 2025. Two fortunate New Jersey players won third-tier prizes in the first drawing of the year.
On January 1, the winning numbers were 6, 12, 28, 35, 66, and Powerball 26, with a 3x Powerplay bonus. A lucky Quick Check customer in Cranford took home $150,000 thanks to Powerplay, while a Nutley player won $50,000. Two winning tickets from Essex and Union counties earned their holders $200,000 by matching four white balls and the Powerball. The next drawing happens on Jan. 6 at 10:59 p.m. ET.
Previous jackpots have left players amazed. California had a $2.04 billion winner in November 2022, followed by $1.765 billion in October 2023.
Your odds of winning the big prize? A mind-boggling 292,201,338 to 1. Want to match just the white balls? Those chances improve to 11,688,053 to 1.
You can buy tickets in 45 states across the U.S., plus Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. Regular tickets cost $2, but adding Powerplay for an extra dollar can boost smaller prizes. Ticket sales stop at 9:59 p.m. in New Jersey and 10 p.m. in New York on drawing nights. New Jersey state law allows winners to remain anonymous.
Powerplay multipliers go from 2x to 5x. When jackpots drop below $150 million, a special 10x multiplier becomes available. Matching 5 with Powerplay always wins $2 million. Choose five numbers from 1 to 69, plus one Powerball from 1 to 26. Drawings happen three times weekly: Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday nights.
Get tickets at local retailers or through Jackpocket where allowed. Big winners can pick between yearly payments over 29 years or a single cash payout.
