Norovirus Is On The Rise And Here Is What You Should Know
Norovirus, also known as the stomach flu or stomach bug, is a highly contagious virus that has been spreading in New Jersey. According to nj.gov, Noroviruses can spread quickly from person to person in
crowded places like care facilities, daycare centers, schools, hotels, summer camps, hospitals, family dinners, restaurants, and cruise ships.
Places where people often eat food prepared or handled by others also have reports that people who eat shellfish are at more of a higher risk of catching Norovirus. Remember Rat Rockers, there is not much to do if you catch this virus. There is no vaccine, and there is no drug to treat people who get
sick.
Symptoms Of The Norovirus
If you catch it, it’s not pretty, to say the least. The symptoms are stomach cramps, vomiting, nausea, and diarrhea. Other less common symptoms include low-grade fever, chills, headache, body aches, dehydration, and feeling tired. The virus stays in the stool for about two weeks. According to reports, most people start to get better between 1 and 3 days.
How To Prevent Getting The Norovirus
First, you should wash your hands, with lots of soap and warm water, especially after using the bathroom or changing a baby’s diaper keep this in mind sanitizers are not a substitute for washing hands with soap and water. Make sure you wash all your fruits and veggies too. Clean and disinfect surfaces. Remove and wash clothing and linens that may be in contact with vomit or stool and wash with detergent at the maximum cycle length and machine. One more thing you should do is report all outbreaks to the local health department.
Stay safe out there and let’s be extra careful for 2025. Thank you for taking the time to check this story out and rocking out with me and 95.9 The Rat. You can get more stories by clicking right HERE. Much LOVE and CHEERS. –Gotts
