Ozzy Osbourne Sang at Rock Hall Dress Rehearsal
Even though Ozzy Osbourne didn’t sing at his solo induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this year, he apparently did sing at dress rehearsal.
Guitarist Zakk Wylde shared this detail in an appearance on the Shred with Shifty podcast. Wylde said Osbourne sang his classic song “Mama, I’m Coming Home” during dress rehearsal because Jelly Roll couldn’t make rehearsals. (Jelly Roll sang the song during the actual ceremony.)
Wylde said he didn’t know why Osbourne didn’t sing at the ceremony and noted, “I think it was supposed to be, everybody was supposed to do a tribute thing to the boss. You know, how like Kelly Clarkson was singing with Foreigner with Lou Graham. You know what I mean? But like, Kelly was mostly singing the whole thing and all that stuff.”
Osbourne was honored with an all-star tribute at the 2024 Rock Hall ceremony. As previously reported, Maynard James Keenan fronted the performance of “Crazy Train,” which featured Wolfgang Van Halen and Andrew Watt on guitar, Robert Trujillo on bass, and Chad Smith on drums. Then, Jelly Roll and guitarist Zakk Wylde emerged to perform “Mama I’m Coming Home.” Closing out the set and joining the jam were Billy Idol and guitarist Steve Stevens with “No More Tears.”
Back in January 2024, wife/manager Sharon Osbourne told Rolling Stone that Ozzy will do two more shows to give the icon a chance for a proper goodbye to his fans. The show dates haven’t been announced, but they will take place in Birmingham.
Sharon said, “His voice is still absolutely perfect. And all the time he has been off he still does his singing lessons so his voice is perfect.”
In a December, Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler told Lifeminute, “Ozzy was talking to me about, when he does his farewell concert – which he still wants to do – He’s dying to still get out there and play. And he suggested, at his very final concert, for the four of us to get up on stage and maybe do three or four songs together. And that would be it, finished.”
The Prince of Darkness last performed in September 2022 at SoFi Stadium as part of NFL Kickoff 2022. His performance only consisted of two songs: “Patient Number 9” and “Crazy Train”.
