Linkin Park Hosting Exclusive Event Following Countdown Stunt
Linkin Park has something in store for fans on September 5 after faking them out with a countdown clock stunt.
Fans over on the Linkin Park Reddit shared screenshots of an email announcing an event in Los Angeles on September 5. The mysterious event will be between 12:30 PM and 5:30 PM. Tickets for the in-person event are limited, and no +1s are allowed. The location for the event is currently unknown, as is the premise of the event itself.
As previously reported, a mysterious countdown clock was shared by Linkin Park earlier this week. The clock was set to expire on August 28. However, once the clock struck “0,” it glitched and started counting back up. Loudwire noted the same glitch was observed at 00:09:05 once the clock started back up again. This, of course, has led fans to speculate what that timestamp really means. Obviously, the timestamp does translate easily to September 5, but that’s all that’s known as of publishing.
Shortly after the clock struck “0,” Linkin Park shared the clip below to their social media channels with the caption, “It’s only a matter of time…LinkinPark.com.”
This Linkin Park countdown situation accidentally gained even more attention thanks to Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley. A message from Sum 41’s social media accounts on August 26 read, “Tune in Wednesday morning Deryck Whibley announcement.” This message was shared after Linkin Park shared their countdown clock.
This then led to speculation that Linkin Park was back with Whibley as the lead singer. Needless to say, fans went wild with the speculation. Just look at the replies on this X (formerly Twitter) post. One user wrote, “Holy f—ing shit he’s the new Linkin Park singer.” Another wrote, “I’ve said ever since the memorial concert, that Deryck was the closest to sounding like Chester.” One user joked, “Oasis, Linkin Park and Sum 41 with announcements this week?! [fire emoji]”
Finally, Whibley took to social media and wrote the following statement: “I feel the need to dispel some current rumors. It’s been brought to my attention that many people think I could be joining a reuniting band. But I just want to say, despite popular belief, I am not joining Oasis…or Linkin Park. Or any other band for that matter.”
He continued, “I have my own ‘tour and book’ announcement that I will now move to the end of the week, ahead of our US tour.”
Whibley concluded, “I do look forward to seeing whatever both these amazing bands do in the future.”
