VIDEO: Wolfgang Van Halen’s Debut Solo Single ‘Distance,’ A Tribute to Eddie Van Halen
Wolfgang Van Halen has released his debut solo single “Distance,” which serves as a tribute to his late father Eddie Van Halen.
Embedded below, the song is accompanied by a touching music video comprised of home movies of Wolfgang and Eddie through the years and ends with a voicemail from Eddie to Wolfgang saying, “I’m just so happy to have you as my son and I’m so proud of you. I love you so much. Call me if you get a chance. I just wanna hear your voice, okay? I love you, bye.”
Wolfgang announced “Distance” last week saying in a statement, “‘Distance’ is a song that was initially written for the debut album, but was going to be held for a later time. As my pop continued to struggle with various health issued I was imagining what my life would be like without him and how terribly I’d miss him.”
He continued, “While this song is incredibly personal, I think anyone can relate to the idea of having a profound loss in their own life. I never anticipated ‘Distance’ would be the first song of mine that people would hear, but I also thought my father would be here to celebrate its release along with me. This is for him.”
“Distance” was released under the name “Mammoth WVH” and is available for streaming/download here. Wolfgang notes in the song’s YouTube description, “Proceeds from ‘Distance’ will be donated to Pop’s favorite charity, Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation.”
