Joe Rogan Almost Died While Gaming
Each week at CheckpointXP we bring you a moment in gaming that’s too close for comfort. This week we wipe the sweat from our brow as we learn just how close professional podcaster Joe Rogan came with a brush-in with death itself, due to…gaming?!
This Old Dance
Gaming is no stranger to news headlines and being used as the scapegoat for clickbait titles. In the past year alone it’s gone from one end of the spectrum to the other thanks to the Pandemic. As Covid-19 was first spreading through the United States the media and professionals everywhere were urging people to stay indoors. A lot of these campaigns pointed to video games as a healthy way to keep yourself engaged amidst the worry. Animal Crossing becomes more of a global phenomenon than it might have otherwise thanks to everyone wanting to play.
But just last year the World Health Organization had added “Gaming Addiction” to its list of official health concerns. It seems Joe Rogan is following that same logic and now blames his own inability to be a responsible 50-something adult. In a recent podcast with Hannibal Buress, he describes how he had to give up gaming because it’s to him as alcohol is to an alcoholic. How he’d get sweaty palms, pains in his stomach, and just feel terrible after gaming for 12 hours. It sounds like maybe Joe Rogan just needed to take a short break from gaming to eat a healthy meal. Maybe get someone to remind him of his responsibilities, then maybe gaming, which is normally a stress relief, wouldn’t cause him so much stress. His mother might be a good option since those are things a child normally forgets to do.
