VIDEO: John Frusciante Performs with RHCP for First Time Since 2007
John Frusciante performed with the Red Hot Chili Peppers for the first time since 2007 at a charity show over the weekend in Los Angeles.
The band played a mini-set at an event for the Tony Hawk Foundation that included “Give It Away,” The Stooges’ “I Wanna Be Your Dog” and Gang of Four’s “Not Great Men.” The event also served as a tribute to aspiring filmmaker Andrew Burke. Hawk shared footage from the performance via Instagram, which can be viewed by scrolling through the post below.
The Chili Peppers made the surprise announcement about Frusciante’s return in a low-key Instagram post on December 15, 2019 that simply stated, “The Red Hot Chili Peppers announce that we are parting ways with our guitarist of the past ten years, John Klinghoffer. Josh is a beautiful musician who we respect and love. We are deeply grateful for our time with him and the countless gifts that he shared with us. We also announce, with great excitement and full hearts, that John Frusciante is rejoining our group.”
Since then, the Chili Peppers have been announced as one of the headliners of the Bottlerock Festival taking place in Napa, Calif. on May 22. Other festivals featuring RHCP on the bill include the Hangout Music Festival in Gulf Shores, Ala. on May 15 and Boston Calling on May 24.
