Red Hot Chili Peppers Will Record New Album with John Frusciante
Since the Red Hot Chili Peppers announced guitarist John Frusciante was back in the band after exiting ten years ago, many have speculated whether the band would record a new album. Per Chad Smith, a new album with Frusciante is in the works.
In an interview with Rolling Stone about his new art exhibit currently on display in Austin, Smith said, “I was given strict orders for this interview: ‘DON’T TALK ABOUT THE BAND.’ But, yes, John is back in the band, and everyone knows that. We’re psyched. The festivals are the only shows booked. For now, we’ll mostly be concentrating on new songs and writing a new record. We’re all real excited to make new music.”
When pressed if that means a new album is really in the works, Smith said, “Yes. That’s all I can say.”
The Chili Peppers made the surprise announcement about Frusciante’s return in a low-key Instagram post on December 15 that simply stated, “The Red Hot Chili Peppers announce that we are parting ways with our guitarist of the past ten years, John Klinghoffer. Josh is a beautiful musician who we respect and love. We are deeply grateful for our time with him and the countless gifts that he shared with us. We also announce, with great excitement and full hearts, that John Frusciante is rejoining our group.”
Since then, the Chili Peppers have been announced as one of the headliners of the Bottlerock Festival taking place in Napa, Calif. on May 22. Other festivals featuring RHCP on the bill include the Hangout Music Festival in Gulf Shores, Ala. on May 15 and Boston Calling on May 24.
