Billboard And The Hollywood Reporter Partner On Their First-Ever Pride Summit
Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter have partnered on what will be their first-ever Pride Summit.
On Thursday, August 8, the inaugural event celebrating the LGBTQ community and the contributions they have made to arts and entertainment will take place at the 1 Hotel West Hollywood in Los Angeles.
“Thoughtful panels and conversations” will be provided at the summit, stemming from editorial information from both brands and observation about what LGBTQ readers consume.
The newly hired VP of Pride Alexis Fish, VP of Cultural Media Datwon Thomas, and VP of Latin Leila Cobo who have all spearheaded the summits “support strategic content pillars with a dedicated focus on short-form video, data, and real-life events.”
Deanna Brown, Billboard–The Hollywood Reporter Media Group president, explained how the Pride Summit came to fruition, in a press release.
“Our company has a year-round dedication to diversity, inclusion, and representation, and we’re proud to establish the summit during this year’s historic summer of pride to honor the LGBTQ in real life,” Brown said.
“This event, our new hire of Alexis Fish and our comprehensive editorial and data products underscore our commitment and expertise in super-serving the LGBTQ+ community in a multitude of ways.”
The summit takes place on the same day that Billboard‘s annual Pride issue is released and it will feature the issue’s cover star, top LGBTQ artists and industry executives.
An array of topics will be discussed during the panels, including topics such as bringing LGBTQ voices into the songwriters’ room, ending homophobia, new upcoming queer artists, and the best strategies on welcoming gender non-conforming and queer people in the workplace.
Billboard also has announced two new Pride scholarships that will absorb the costs of its Music Industry Essentials course at the NYU Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music.
The course promises to deliver valuable insight on the music industry, from history and marketing to music production. Students will also have the opportunity to learn from music industry trailblazers as well as staff members at Billboard.
The scholarship recipients will be announced at the Pride Summit, and more information regarding the class and the scholarship are available here.
Applications for the scholarship can be submitted up to July 30. The Pride Summit’s registration costs $399 and can be submitted at BBTHRPrideSummit.com. Billboard and THR will announce specific participants in the coming weeks.
The Pride Summit is just one event that’s a part of Billboard‘s inclusive and diverse live-event programming such as the publication’s Latin Week, Women in Music, and Hip-Hop and R&B Summit, as well as THR‘s Women in Entertainment and Empowerment in Entertainment.
