Jerry Cantrell, Sean Kinney on Meeting Layne Staley, Early Days of AIC
Alice In Chains frontman Layne Staley would’ve turned 51 today (August 22.)
Without Staley, it’s fair to say we wouldn’t be talking about AIC, because, in essence, he was the missing piece to the puzzle. As the final member to join the band, he provided an incredible power on the mic that they were missing. Coupled with Jerry Cantrell, AIC had a remarkable 1-2 vocal punch that set them apart from their Seattle contemporaries.
In the video below, Cantrell and drummer Sean Kinney talk about those formative early days of the band and the interesting tactics they took to convince Staley to join their band.
