Tim Commerford on Chris Cornell’s Influence on New Prophets of Rage LP
It’s not exactly a secret that the pedigree of Prophets of Rage has a massive influence on its self-titled debut LP. That considering, it should come as no surprise the presence of Chris Cornell can be felt on this album.
Bassist Tim Commerford touched on this in a recent conversation with WRIF’s Meltdown:
“I feel like what’s great for me to listen to on the Prophets of Rage record is that I hear Chris Cornell on that record. We’ve sort of pulled from all of the projects we’ve done in the past, and we’ve become better musicians because of it, and it all comes out in the mix. Chris Cornell…that’s one thing that I’ve taken away from him that feels really good is that I got to be in a room with him and learn how to make music with that guy, and now he’s part of me whether I like it or not.”
As for how he remembers Cornell since his tragic passing, Commerford had these touching words:
“I listen to his music in a new way now. Songs that I’ve heard a hundred thousand times before sound like brand new songs to me. I look at his lyrics, and read his lyrics, and look at them in a different way. I’m just really happy to have been able to play music with him and have him be such a big influence on me.”
