According to YouGov.com, French fries are the most popular food in America. Americans LOVE their French Fries!

New Jerseyans LOVE French fries and of course the Garden state’s beloved Pork Roll/Taylor Ham. Some Jersey folks love fries combined with pork roll/Taylor Ham.

Data collected from extensive surveys and snap polls, resulted in 85% of American participants naming French fries as their favorite food. Followed by hamburgers, mashed potatoes, grilled cheese, steak with a baked potato, cheeseburgers, fried chicken, and hash browns all following closely behind.

French fries may be the one of America’s most perfect foods. You can dress them up a million different ways. They can be accompanied by an abundance of different dipping sauces and condiments.

Jersey’s signature, “Disco Fries” are a staple at diners across the state. They are Canada’s version of poutine.

I remember when I first moved here, I went to a diner with some co-workers and friends after a night out at one of the local bars, and someone ordered “Disco Fries.” I said, “What the heck are disco fries.”

Everyone at the table looked at me like I came from another planet. I wanted to slide under the table.

This iconic New Jersey favorite was explained to me as, ” A plate full of French fries, covered in brown gravy, and topped with a generous helping of melted mozzarella.

That sounded amazing! Back home in New York, I always ordered my diner fries with a side of brown gravy. Adding melted mozzarella to the equation sent it over the top after trying them for the first time.

Other than my favorite diners on the Jersey Shore, bars and taverns have served up some of my favorite plates of French fries.

Let’s take a look at what bars, taverns, and pubs, New Jersey folks favor on the Jersey Shore, when it comes to ordering a big old plate of America’s most popular food.

  • Wonder Bar - 1213 Ocean Ave N, Asbury Park, NJ 07712

Come for the music, stay for the food. The seasoned fries with their special blend of spices hits the spot every time. Add cheese, and it’s a meal as far as I’m concerned.

  • Patrick's Grille - 62 W Sylvania Ave, Neptune City, NJ 07753

Take your pick: Steak fries, shoestring, sweet potato fries, and even tater tots. They are all mouthwatering at Patrick’s.  Oh, the breaded mushrooms with the horseradish sauce is a must order too.

  • Kelly's Tavern - 43 NJ-35, Neptune City, NJ 07753

They may be famous for their humongous Reubens, but the fries here are very tasty. I’m not sure if they still have waffle fries, but I must say, they were some of the best waffle fries I’ve ever had at a bar.

  • Pour House - 640 Shrewsbury Ave, Tinton Falls, NJ 07701

I don’t know what kind of magic they perform on these fries, but they are crispy, coated, and seasoned to perfection. The Pour House is one of the few places where I polish off the fries before I even hit my burger.

  • Heights 27 Bar & Grille - 2407 NJ-71, Spring Lake Heights, NJ 07762

A friendly neighborhood bar with a decent Happy Hour, live music, and good pub food. The fries, according to Dave and other friends, are hot and crispy and served in a paper lined bucket. Taco Tuesdays & Prime Rib Thursdays are just a few of the weekly specials offered here.

  • Off The Hook - 1 NJ-36, Highlands, NJ 07732

The WRAT staff has been here many times in the last 20 plus years. Spectacular views and really good food, especially the fries.

  • Birdies Bar and Grill - 5025 Bill Zimmerman Jr Way, Bayville, NJ 08721 Located at Cedar Creek Golf Course

This place is unfamiliar to me. It was mentioned by a couple of my foodie friends who I rely on for food reviews.  They referred to Birdie’s as a Dive Bar at a golf course with exceptional food. I love a good dive bar, and when a new one is introduced to me, I have to give them a shot. They offer baskets of Classic fries served with house made sweet BBQ rub. That’s an attention grabber. They also serve waffle fries, which a plus for me.  The couple who own Birdies, also own a BBQ Catering company.

  • Beachcomber Bar & Grill - 100 Ocean Terrace, Seaside Heights, NJ 08751

I was trying to avoid adding a bar on the boardwalk because House Of Fries can’t be topped. We are talking Jersey Shore bars, and the Beachcomber’s fries are fresh cut, served hot, and they are delicious.  The Beachcomber holds a special place in my heart, as it was the first place I ever saw Shorty Long & The Jersey Horns. Ricky is the absolute best.

  • Shore House Tavern - 2114 NJ-88, Point Pleasant, NJ 08742

I come here for the food and the family who owns this place. I love the cheesesteak egg rolls, the tuna nachos, and the fries. The straight cut regular fries are really good,  the Sidewinder fries are incredible, and the sweet potato fries are also a favorite. If you want to get adventurous, try one of their many options of loaded fries. Disco fries, Drunken fries with vodka sauce and melted mozzarella, or the Short Rib fries, which are Disco fries topped with braised short ribs. Tell Big Frank and the boys, Robyn sent you.

  • Doyle's Pour House - 345 S Main St, Barnegat, NJ 08005

I’ve eaten the wings, burgers, soups, crab dip, and the shoestring fries. The fries are near perfect at Doyle’s. They also have sweet potato fries, garlic fries, and curly fries. I love this place. It’s everything you’d expect a neighborhood Irish pub to be.

  • The Office Restaurant & Lounge - 820 Main St, Toms River, NJ 08753

My husband loves thick cut steak fries. If that’s your thing too, The Office has got it going on. The sweet potato fries are also good.

  • Mason's Bar & Grill - 400 Atlantic City Blvd, Beachwood, NJ 08722

Brandon, my man behind the bar knows immediately to make me an Old Fashioned when I walk through the door. I never have to ask. Mason’s has the biggest bourbon selection in Ocean County.  I’ve eaten a few items on the menu, all of them good. But the Bourbon Burger is my absolute favorite, topped with melted cheddar and house made  bacon jam.  I always swap out the chips for a side of their crispy delicious shoestring fries, served on a small metal cookie sheet next to my mouthwatering burger.
