Kevin Hart, Cate Blanchett, Jamie Lee Curtis Star In A Wild Sci-fi Flick
Cate Blanchett as Lilith, Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina, Kevin Hart as Roland, Florian Monteanu as Krieg and Jamie Lee Curtis as Tannis in 'Borderlands.'
Mad Max meets the Guardians of the Galaxy in a new, raunchy, post-apocalyptic sci-fi film featuring a star-studded cast. In a new film by director Eli Roth titled Borderlands, based on the video game series of the same name, a band of unlikely heroes must battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find and protect a missing girl who may hold the key to unimaginable power. The fate of the universe could be in their hands – but they’ll be fighting for something more: each other.
Lilith (Cate Blanchett), an infamous treasure hunter with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of Atlas (Edgar Ramírez), the universe’s “most powerful S.O.B.” She forms an unexpected alliance with a ragtag team of misfits – Roland (Kevin Hart), once a highly respected soldier, but now desperate for redemption; Tiny Tina (Ariana Greenblatt), a feral pre-teen demolitionist; Krieg (Florian Munteanu), Tina’s musclebound, rhetorically challenged protector; Tannis (Jame Lee Curtis), the scientist who’s seen it all; and Claptrap (Jack Black), a persistently wisea– robot. The trailer is slightly NSFW. Watch below:
Video Game Fans Are Mad
One person commented on the trailer, “This looks like celebrities cosplaying character’s they heard about from their kids while using a James Gunn filter to make it look fun.” A clear fan of the games complained about the trailer, writing, “Tina’s not nearly as unhinged as she should be, Tanis doesn’t feel like a weirdo, the thresher design is almost unrecognizable this movie has exactly 2 things going for it: Claptrap seems to be using taken his Fragtrap persona, Krieg truly feels like a Psycho.” A third said, “Every actor in this trailer looks 25 years older then the original characters in games….” One person on X (formerly Twitter) wrote: “GUARDIANS OF THE BORDERLANDS looks super fun! Hats off to James Gunn…I mean Tim Miller…I mean Eli Roth.” Another person said, “Part of me wants this movie to be good but my inner cynic isn’t convinced.” Another teased: “BOOMERlands.” Commented another critic, “I feel like you guys got pretty much everything wrong you possibly could when it comes to casting and the humor seems forced in the few scenes you’ve selected for the trailer. I mean, I’ll still go see it but if I wasn’t invested to my neck in #amc I’d have waited for netflix.”

The film premieres in theaters on August 9.
The 'Dune 2' Popcorn Bucket Is Cursed
In the second installment of the highly-anticipated Dune film, something strange has taken over the sci-fi film’s marketing. Someone on Team Dune came up with the most cursed popcorn bucket. The reveal of the Dune 2 Sandworm Popcorn Bucket has had the internet and media in a frenzy because of the bucket’s eerie opening with teeth. The jokes write themselves. Since the popcorn bucket’s opening forces one to stick their whole hand in, the amount of popcorn yielded isn’t much because the “teeth” act as a filter. As freakishly unnerving as the popcorn bucket is, the marketing team accomplished what they wanted: everyone is talking about it now. Per Deadline, the sequel is projected to produce more than $65 million in its domestic opening. Tickets are being sold over a month in advance, so the possibility of the film surpassing projections seems highly likely.
What’s Dune 2 About?
