New Jersey’s Newest Trail Located At Bulls Island Recreation Area Now Open
The Department of Environmental Protection recently announced that a new 1.3-mile trail in Delaware Township, Hunterdon County at the Bulls Island Recreation Area is now officially opened to the public.
Visitors can now enjoy the subtle sounds and stunning vistas of the Delaware River which overlooks one of the most scenic and historic portions of theĀ Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park.
New Jersey State Parks, Forests & Historic Sites shared the following statement and information on Friday, June 3:
āTodayās opening of a new Bulls Island Recreation Area trail is yet another reason why New Jerseyās parks are prime destination getaways for residents and visitors alike,āĀ Assistant Commissioner Cecil said in a press release. āBulls Island is a great place to enjoy nature and solitude. Whether youāre out for the exercise, a quiet moment of reflection, or to look for common and unique birds, this new trail at Bulls Island offers all those opportunities.ā
The river was once a critical transportation route and now provides 100 million gallons of drinking water daily for 1 million residents in Central New Jersey. More than 400 native trees and shrub species, as well as 250 native wildflowers, have been planted along the trail to help reforest the area with native flora.
