Throughout the years, filmmakers have delivered an incredible lineup of movies to recognize those who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

On Monday, May 31st, we will honor the brave men and women behind the true reason for the federal holiday. There’s something for everyone on the list and it’s a meaningful tradition to add to your celebrations this year.

Here is a list of five legendry movies to watch this Memorial Day.

• American Sniper (2014)

  'American Sniper' was released in 2014 starring Bradley Cooper as Navy S.E.A.L. sniper Chris Kyle. The film was directed by Clint Eastwood and is based on the memoir 'American Sniper: The Autobiography of the most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History.'

• Black Hawk Down (2001)

  The war film 'Black Hawk Down' was released in 2001 and was directed by Ridley Scott. It is based on the non-fiction book of the same name. The film features a large cast including Josh Hartnett, Ewan McGregor, Eric Bana, Tom Hardy, and more.

• Top Gun (1986)

  'Top Gun' starring Tom Cruise is about students at the United States Navy's elite fighter weapons school as they compete to be best in class.

• D-Day (2004)

  The 'D-Day' documentary released in 2004 was based on the experiences of the soldiers who had invaded France in the D-Day Normandy Landings in 1944. The film starred Ian Holm, Andre Heintz, among others.

• 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi (2016)
