CNN reports that the candy’s success is mainly due to the name’s direct translation. In Japanese “Kit Kat sounds very similar to ‘kito kato,’ which in Japanese means ‘to surely win.” Maybe it is believed that you will have good luck if you break off a piece of a Kit Kat bar. After all, there are a lot of flavors which means there is going to be a lot of luck!
