A very special shout out to 2024's NJEA Community Spotlight Award Winner, Kristy Soltmann from Emma Havens Young Elementary School in Brick. Winning this award recognizes that a school staff member not only excels in the classroom but is an innovator,  trailblazer, and overall star of the community.

Kristy has been in education for 8 years, but she doesn't stop at just being a great teacher. She piloted a new service called the "Allach Club", where the students create beach buckets for children at Brick Beach. Children of parents who cannot afford toys can take & return them to the beach. A perfect idea for those living on the Jersey Shore.

Additionally, Kristy is part of a food drive for the Seeds of Service, and she is aiding in the creation of a communication board for the children at the playground.

A Jersey Girl at heart, Kristy returned to the same elementary school she attended as a child — taking part in multiple committees, including; the Early Act Club, Schol Community Outreach Program, Reading Adventure Night, and Professional Development Inservice. She is also a mentor for novice teachers, including her own cousin Haley who also works in special education at Emma Havens Young. It's a true family affair!

Kristy is said to have a positive attitude and always finds a way to make her students feel like the most important person in the room.  95.9 The RAT is excited to not only give a special shout-out to Kristy, "Teacher who Rocks", but also to this year's NJEA Community Spotlight Award Winner.

Join WRAT and the New Jersey Education Association in celebrating the critical role teachers and school employees play in their classrooms and in our communities.
